Blog Roll

I have removed Nate Silver's 538 blog from my blog roll until such time as it restarts following Silver's move from the NYT to ESPN.  I have added educationrealist a blog by a high school math teacher which seems mostly consistent with my views on education.  Namely that the public schools are doing about as well as can be expected and that the main reason some kids do better academically than other kids is that some kids are smarter than other kids.

I have also added the Mr. Money Mustache blog by a man who retired (sort of) at age 30 by saving a ridiculous fraction of his income.  I find his point of view interesting although I often disagree with it.  And there would be problems if everyone tried to adopt his ideas.

I would like to add Kevin Drum's blog at Mother Jones to my blog roll but I have never been able to get the link to work properly in the Blog List widget.  For some reason it sends you someplace else in the Mother Jones website although the link works fine in the body of a post as above.  If anyone knows how to fix this let me know.

Music videos

Until recently my only exposure to cable TV was in motels or hotels while traveling as I didn't subscribe. Fifteen or twenty years ago there were cable TV channels which seemed to mostly play music videos. But some years later I couldn't find music videos on cable any more. Does anyone know why they went away?

Princeton

My potential job site is in central New Jersey, near Princeton. I drove down Sunday to look around a bit. Princeton seems to be the sort of college town that some people find quite appealing but which strikes me as expensive and crowded. The picture is of some buildings on the Princeton University campus.

I ran into a little traffic but even best case it appears the commute would be almost 2 hours each way so I will probably need to move. I have been looking at real estate sites and it appears that real estate prices for the sort of 2 bedroom townhouse condominium I have here are roughly similar (at least outside of Princeton itself) but that property taxes are higher. If any reader has useful information about housing options in the Princeton area I would appreciate hearing it.

Search engine weirdness

If you search on google for the string "nuc00.dtf" you get a bunch of results from "www.stamptrotters.com". Clicking on the results produces broken link messages. Looking at the results in the google cache shows them to be Westchester real estate sales records. The www.stamptrotters.com site seems to be some sort of stamp collecting club. So how did google cached pages of Westchester property records end up attributed to a stamp collecting domain? It is a mystery to me, perhaps a reader can explain.

Using the new bing search engine produces similar results.
