I contacted the "do not call" organization and was told that they could help only if I supplied either the name or the telephone number of the annoying caller. Having neither, I contacted my telephone company. They said that, yes, they could help me identify harassing callers but that telemarketing calls are an exception. Apparently they do not consider telemarketing calls to be harassing enough to deserve their attention. Thus did I learn how easily the "do not call" list can be circumvented.
